Rapper Illmaculate and producer G-Force have confirmed an April 12 release date for The Green Tape, a project comprised entirely of samples from soul music legend Al Green.
Illmaculate has been a staple of the battle rap scene and is a two-time winner of the World Rap Championships. G-Force has production credits with Planet Asia, Strong Arm Steady and Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith imprint.
Instead of pulling from all of Green’s material, the duo focused on doing a track by track reworking of Green’s 2008 album Lay It Down. That album received notable attention not just from Green fans, but Hip-Hop followers due to the LP’s production credits from ?uestlvoe and James Poyser of The Roots.
