Mike Tyson Says Success Made Him ‘Insane’

"I didn't know what to do once I got to the top. I've learned to live a boring life and I love it..."

Mike Tyson believes his early success in boxing contributed to a period of “insanity.”

Tyson became the youngest fighter to win a heavyweight title when he knocked out Trevor Berbick at the age of 20 in 1986. He made five defenses of the unified crown as his personal life became embroiled in controversy due to his tumultuous marriage to Robin Givens, relationship with Don King, and rape conviction.

Now with a kindler, revamped image and a pigeon-based reality TV show on Animal Planet, Tyson looks back on his period as “The Baddest Man on the Planet” as a time when he was completely unstable.

“I think I was insane for a great period of my life,” Tyson told the UK’s Mirror. “I didn’t know what to do once I got to the top. I’ve learned to live a boring life and I love it. I’m too young for regrets.”

Taking On Tyson airs every Sunday at 8 PM.
