A video can subtract or add to the value of a song. While I’m not a fan of these Hip-Pop power ballads, this video for Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor” definitely aids the song’s appeal. The best part is the beginning, which shows a montage of scenes from Dr. Dre’s career going all the way back to the World Class Wreckin’ Cru. Most sobering are clips of the late Eazy-E and Tupac Shakur. They serve to remind you of the classic, genre-changing work Dre’s made in the past. You have songs like this and “Under Pressure” which make you think we’ll be getting Dr. Dre Presents Aftermath 2. Other leaked songs like “Topless” and “Shit Popped Off” give hope Detox will come through. Time will tell.
