Timbo Thursdays 1/13/11: “Take Ur Clothes Off”

Timbaland's Timbo Thursdays has a lot to live up to. Kanye West with G.O.O.D. Fridays, and Lloyd Banks with Blue Friday, consistently dropped quality, and at times album worthy songs for well over a month. In Kanye's case, it was a few months. Would Timbaland be providing similar work, or just supply fans with subpar throwaways?

Timbaland’s Timbo Thursdays has a lot to live up to. Kanye West with G.O.O.D. Fridays, and Lloyd Banks with Blue Friday, consistently dropped quality, and at times album worthy songs for well over a month. In Kanye’s case, it was a few months. Would Timbaland be providing similar work, or just supply fans with subpar throwaways? The verdict is still out, as the first installment, the Missy-helmed “Take Your Clothes Off,” is neither a home run, nor a complete strike out.

It’s hard to place the timeline of this track. The frolicking club beat has an early to mid 2000s vibe. Missy rides it well with assorted boasts. The track is nothing you’d go out of your way to hear again, but you’d definitely be nodding your head if you happened to hear it in a club.

As I’ve stated before, if Timbo does dig deep into the vaults, he’d be wise to lift unused tracks from the Supa Dupa Fly era. The main players in that camp (Missy, Tim, Aaliyah, etc.) were operating on a high level, and it’d be very interesting hearing their experimentations from that period. Sandwich those in with some unreleased Jay-Z tracks, and an unheard pop collab or two, and Timbaland would have most of his fans covered.

We’ll see what Timbo cooks up for next week.
