My man Kurious George has seen many emcees come and go. I remember as a youngster watching dumbfounded when he was doing joints like “Walk Like a Duck” in 1992 (I was around 11, and even though I liked the beat, I thought the theme was corny). I wasn’t a fan then, but grew to appreciate his talent a few years later when he dropped Constipated Monkey, and then in my late teens when he re-emerged on the underground scene to contribute to MF Doom’s Operation Doomsday, and the King Geedorah’s Take Me To Your Leader.
Being in the game since 1991, the grey hairs are starting to show on Kurious. And the fact that he’s still representing the culture is exactly what we need if Hip-Hop is truly to be seen as a viable long-term career option.
Superstar Dave Dar is no rookie himself, having made his bones working on many of Rawkus’ celebrated late 90s/early 2000s releases. The Bamboo Bros. will be dropping their album, American Jibaro, in Spring 2011. Already confirmed to appear are Pete Rock and Talib Kweli.
