From his own album The Reset, to his work with Boog Brown (Brown Study), Apollo Brown has kept a full schedule for 2010. His latest endeavor is with DJ Soko and Journalist103, who together form the trio The Left. Their debut, Gas Mask, has received a lot of critical attention courtesy of guest appearances like Guilty Simpson, Invincible, Finale and Marv Won.
Their latest single enlists legend Kool G Rap. Working with G Rap is a dream come true for Apollo, who laced the beat with a highly appropriate Nas vocal sample from “I Ain’t Hard to Tell.”
“”I’ve always wanted to do a joint with Kool G. Rap,” Brown told Beats, Boxing & Mayhem. “He’s without a doubt one of my favorite emcees of all time. He and Journalist just fit the beat, and meshed on the song as a whole. Journalist came in the studio to cut the song and I surprised him with the vocals from Kool G. Rap and we just went from there.”

Some of the original producers are gone (Pete Rock, L.E.S.), but AZ has done a good job in getting replacements for his 15th anniversary edition of Doe Or Die. Instead of simply trying to remake the entire album, AZ will have four remixes and six all-new tracks. Statik Selektah is contributing three joints, including the below “World Don’t Stop 2010.” You decide if it’s touching the Ski-produced original. Tracklist after the link.

Better late than never. Lloyd Banks drops a video for his “Beamers, Benz or Bentley Remix” with Jadakiss, Ludacris and The Dream. Apparently, Jadakiss was the only one who could make the video shoot on short notice, because the clip abruptly shuts off without Luda or Dream’s parts. Hunger For More 2 is set for November 22.
On Friday (November 5), Chrisette Michele will be quietly dropping a new mixtape called Love Thy Brother. Drake already did his own solo version of “Aston Martin Music,” so it’s only right that Michele gives it a shot. Her brother Lem Payne drops a verse as well. Good effort, but I still think Drake’s “Paris Morton Music” trumps all.
With “Love the Way You Lie” being such a smash hit, it’s not surprising that Eminem and Rihanna would work together again. Instead of new song, they simply remix their first collaboration with Rihanna now singing the lead. It’s no secret that she’s not a strong singer, and the arrangements leave her exposed when she tries to hit notes outside the chorus sections. But with said chorus staying the same, and a near carbon copy Em verse in flow, this’ll probably do well for Rihanna if she includes it on her new album Loud (November 10).
