New Video: REKS “Self-Titled” (Produced by Statik Selektah)

Instead of spinning a fictional tale, REKS opts to narrate his life and the pivotal role Hip-Hop culture has played in it. The scratch sample of Nas' vocals from "Destroy & Rebuild" is a nice touch as well.

“Cory changed his name to R.E.K.S.”

I had the pleasure of hearing this song live a little over a week ago at Atlanta’s A3C Festival. REKS goes into storytelling mode for this piano-driven track from Statik Selektah. Instead of spinning a fictional tale, REKS opts to narrate his life and the pivotal role Hip-Hop culture has played in it. The scratch sample of Nas’ vocals from “Destroy & Rebuild” is a nice touch as well. As bad as Nasir dogged Cormega on that joint, you’d think anyone named Corey wouldn’t bother trying to rework it. This is off REKS’ In Between The Lines mixtape that dropped back in February. A new mixtape with Green Lantern, and a teaser EP are currently in the works. Look for REKS to drop a full-length LP in early 2011.
