Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been hit with $25 million dollar civil suit over the alleged assault of a photographer in 2009.
Antonio Echavarria had a physical confrontation with Tyson last November at Los Angeles International Airport. The fight started after the two exchanged words over Exhavarria taking unapproved photos.
When police arrived, both individuals accused the other of assault, leading to both men being charged with misdemeanor battery. Later, the Los Angeles courts dropped each man’s case due to lack of evidence.
In his civil suit, Echavarria claims that Tyson punched him with his left hand. The photographer is also seeking damages for a destroyed camera. The attack, his suit states, left him with a concussion and damage to his spinal cord.
“The force of the beating was such that is caused abrasions and lacerations to Plaintiff’s head and face as well as traumatic closed brain injury resulting in brain concussions and contusions, including sprain and strain to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles around the cervical spinal cord region,” the lawsuit reads. “Plaintiff was subsequently diagnosed with and suffers from post-concussion syndrome and neurological problems due to the injury.”
Echavarria also claims that he was initially arrested due to false statements made to police by Mike Tyson and two airport employees.
At press time, Mike Tyson could not be reached for comment.

Well, at least this one isn’t as bad as the $115 million lawsuit filed against Tyson over the “Iron Mike” nickname.
This one doesn’t appear to have any legs either. I don’t doubt Tyson smacked him around a little bit. But if his injuries were that severe, the courts wouldn’t have thrown out the misdemeanor battery charge. In fact, it would have been escalated.
Echavarria will be lucky if he gets enough to cover the cost of his destroyed camera.
