New Music: J Cole’s Lyrical Relaxation, Hell Razah’s Cinema, Nottz & Asher Roth’s Neighborhood, Ced Hughes

Last month, J Cole advised he was delaying his debut album in hopes of fine-tuning it to create a classic. In its place, the North Carolina native aims to drop a standout mixtape on the level or better than The Warm Up. J. COLE’S LYRICAL RELAXATION

Last month, J Cole advised he was delaying his debut album in hopes of fine-tuning it to create a classic. In its place, the North Carolina native aims to drop a standout mixtape on the level or better than The Warm Up. Here he handles production duties and gets assistance from Fashawn and Omen for “Relaxation.”

Cole takes a minimalist approach with soft but urgently placed drums to accentuate his flow. While he’s been clear on having no “beef” with his contemporaries, Cole shows his competitive drive with a few choice subliminals.

“These niggas quote my lines like the Lord’sbook/You niggas less rhymes more hooks,” he flows.

After the song, check out J Cole speaking on his appearance as an unlockable character on NBA Jam.
