It appears Nick Cannon’s recent Slick Rick-inspired diss was just the beginning. The entertainer is rumored to be seeking physical retribution over Eminem’s constant verbal insults to his wife, Mariah Carey, over the last decade.
According to Perez Hilton, Cannon declared earlier this week on his NYC-based radio show that he would slap Eminem if he ever came face to face with the Detroit lyricist.
The ill-will stems from a long-running feud between Eminem and Mariah Carey, which preceded her marriage to Nick Cannon in 2008.
Eminem has boasted since the early 2000s that he briefly dated Carey, who continues to vehemently refute the claim. After years of silence on both sides, Eminem reignited the hostilities with a diss to Carey and Cannon on 2009’s “Bagpipes from Baghdad” (Nick Cannon, I wish you luck with the fucking whore…”). Cannon responded with a blog post criticizing the Detroit emcee, while Carey used her video for “Obsessed” to mock Eminem for what she deemed as stalker behavior.
Her move prompted Eminem to make his first full-fledged diss to her entitled “The Warning.” In it, Eminem revealed he was pissed off and motivated by her continual denial of their relationship. In addition, he threatened to expose alleged voicemail messages Carey left him in the early 2000s. Earlier this month, Cannon took jabs at Eminem on “I’m a Slick Rick,” the first release from his upcoming mixtape The Great Adventures of Slick Nick.
Eminem has not responded to Cannon’s threat. Last month, he told Vibe magazine that his passing mention of Mariah Carey on Recovery’s “Cold Wind Blows” would be his last comment on the matter.

I happen to respect all the parties involved: Mariah and Eminem for their obvious natural talent, and Cannon for the multi-layered entertainment career he’s created for himself.
Some people have criticized him for going at Eminem before, and will likely do so again for this move. We all know who the better rapper is, but I have no problem with it at all. Eminem may be done with the matter, but it’s taken him damn near 10 years to make that decision. He’s been writing Mariah’s name in raps since 2002. Cannon’s only been going at it for about a year.
Eminem should have ceased the comments after she married Nick in 2008. That would have been the respectful thing to do. I can’t understand why anyone would be surprised at all with Cannon wanting to defend his wife’s honor. In fact, I’m surprised it’s taken Cannon this long to threaten violence, because that’s the first thing I’d want to do if someone, a supposed ex no less, took it upon himself to call my woman a whore in the press.
Whatever went down with Mariah, it obviously made a big impression on Eminem. Having an ex from about 10 years ago still on your mind is not a good look.
Hopefully this is the last we’ll hear of this “beef.” And while I admire Cannon’s resolve in defending his wife, seeing Eminem’s boxing skills on Vincent Chase makes me humorously wonder if its better he doesn’t ever run into Em.
