A new video from Manny Pacquiao’s preliminary training in the Philippines has hit the net.
Trainer Freddie Roach arrived last Sunday (September 18) at Quezon City’s Elorde Gym to monitor his star pupil’s progress. Pacquiao, who already looks in good shape and well under the catchweight limit of 150 pounds, has been building back up his stamina through up to seven round stanzas of padwork. In the video, Roach can be viewed instructing Pacquiao on the lateral movement and angles he will utilize to neutralize Margarito’s right hand and his money punch, the uppercut.
“We came up with a conclusion that we are going to move, and if the move is adequate, we’ll go with it,” Roach explained to boxingscene.com. “But if not, we’ll make an adjustment, make it a little smoother.”
By November , Manny Pacquiao will have been out of the ring for eight months, one of the longest periods on inactivity in his career. The last time the Filipino star was out of the ring for over six months was in 2004, when he was out of action for seven months following a controversial draw with rival Juan Manuel Marquez. In addition, Pacquiao’s return to the ring will be in a new weight class, as he attempts to make history and win a title in his eighth division (flyweight through junior middleweight).
To prepare, Roach has enlisted bigger, come-forward sluggers for sparring partners in Michael Medina (junior middleweight) and Glen Tapia (welterweight). Top Rank stablemate Vanes Martirosyan, who also competes at 154, will give Manny additional sparring work.
At press time, Manny Pacquiao’s current weight is unknown.
