Eminem had double duty last night (September 12), appearing live at the MTV VMAs, and having a memorable cameo on the season seven finale of Entourage.
In the scene, Eminem confronts the show’s lead character Vincent Chase, who is a movie star that’s fallen this season into a pathetic, alcohol and cocaine driven existence. After trying to resolve matters amicably, Marshall Mathers settles matters with a nice overhand right after being Chase taunts and accuses him of going soft in his superstardom (“Oh wow! What are you too mainstream now to fight your own fights, Marshall?!”)
Eminem is no novice when it comes to the sweet science. Back in 2004, he began training with Emmanuel Steward at the legendary Kronk Gym in Detroit for a potential movie role based on the life of Jewish boxer Dmitry Salita. Steward, whose former fighters include Tommy Hearns, Naseem Hamed and Oscar De La Hoya, described Eminem’s boxing style as combining the finesse of Muhammad Ali with aggression and power.
“I put him through his paces and I was amazed that he was as good as he was,” he marveled. “Since then, he’s trained regularly and I’ve put him in the ring with some top-notch sparring partners. He’s improved enormously. He’s aggressive – a real slugger… He moves a lot like Muhammad Ali.”
Vincent Chase can vouch for the power. Peep Royce da 5’9 and Mr. Porter behind Em before the punch.
