Kanye West and Suge Knight to Hold Mediation Session Over Lawsuit

"I'm disappointed," Knight told MTV News following the first meeting. "I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved."

The Miami courts have allowed Kanye West to participate by phone in a mediation session to settle terms on a  lawsuit filed against him by Suge Knight.

The former Death Row CEO sued for over $1 million dollars after he was shot in the leg at a Kanye West party in 2005. The assailant was never caught nor a cause determined, but Knight blames the attack on West having inadequate security for the event. In addition, Knight’s lawsuit claims he had to undergo several months of surgery to recover from a shattered bone and accrued over $200,000 in medical fees.

The session will be the second meeting between the two camp’s legal teams. In June, West and Knight met in person but were unable to come to terms despite a six-hour meeting.

“I’m disappointed,” Knight told MTV News following the first meeting. “I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved.”

This time, West’s requested a phone mediation due to previous international commitments tied to work on his fifth studio album.

The mediation will be held on August 26.

I would’ve loved to have been a fly on the wall for their initial June meeting.

After the years of extortion claims and beatings ranging from executives like Andre Harrell to artists such Vanilla Ice, Sam Sneed and Kurupt, it’s almost surreal to see Suge Knight suing anyone over street violence.

But taking his notoriety out of it, Knight pretty much doing what most individuals have done in similar circumstances. People who have been injured accidentally at events usually place blame on the organizers. I also understand Kanye’s position as well. Who’s to say Knight didn’t bring the shooting on himself by inciting a confrontation with someone at some point during the night?

I’m sure they’ll settle this time around, and it’ll be closer to the original $200k in medical fees rather than the $1 million Suge is requesting.
