Young Buck on 50 Cent’s Beefs: “It Was an Act to Sell Records”

"When it came to me being part of the beefs and things of that nature that came along with 50 Cent, I treated it like it was real. I made the decision of jumpin' in all those situations. But after I started to get amongst these individuals, run into these individuals and realize that some of these beef situations — we didn't have issues with these dudes..."

Young Buck’s unresolved contract dispute with 50 Cent has not prevented him from speaking out on his former mentor’s business practices.

Buck has been at odds with 50 since 2008, when the Nashville emcee publicly stated that he had not received any royalty checks despite selling over one million records. Following that comment and further statements verifying his willingness to end beefs with G Unit rivals (Fat Joe, The Game), 50 Cent removed him from the group live on New York radio station Hot 97.

The Queens mogul also leaked a private conversation between them that displays Young Buck near tears over his financial situation that included back taxes and other unpaid debts.

Buck admitted that he initially treated all of 50 Cent’s battles as personal street beefs until he actually began meeting those adversaries in person.

“When it came to me being part of the beefs and things of that nature that came along with 50 Cent, I treated it like it was real. I made the decision of jumpin’ in all those situations. But after I started to get amongst these individuals, run into these individuals and realize that some of these beef situations — we didn’t have issues with these dudes,” Buck explained to the Nashville Scene. “I ran into Jadakiss in Las Vegas, I ran into Game in Las Vegas, Jim Jones and the Dipset I ran into in New York, Fat Joe I ran into in Chicago. I’m runnin’ into them and taking these approaches like it’s real. [But] they like, ‘Naw, Buck, it ain’t like that, we fuck with you.’ I didn’t feel right continuing going at this dude when I just ran into [him] and we cool.”

After years of this behavior, Young Buck believes fans have grown tired of the routine. He believes it was 50 Cent’s hubris that made him continue to create unnecessary conflicts.

“It was an act to sell records, without a doubt. I think the fans started to catch on to that. 50 doesn’t know when to say enough is enough,” he stated. “The money that he’s been blessed to be able to get has instilled the feeling of being untouchable. Because the things that he does now are things that he would have never thought about doing if the finances weren’t there.”

Buck also detailed that he has yet to have a face to face conversation with 50 Cent. He is still unable to secure high-profile song appearances as 50 refuses to provide contract clearances. To keep his name afloat, Buck tours heavily and works the mixtape circuit, steps his manager hopes can outlast the prolonged contract battle that’s now in its second year.

“It’s like he [50 Cent] can put the pause button on his [Buck’s] career if we just sit back and let him do it, versus get out here and start grindin’ and doing shows and driving to the shows,” says Buck’s manager G.I. to Nashville Scene. “[Buck] drives to his own fuckin’ shows, ya know what I mean? Fuck some G4 jets, dude, we in Suburban trucks, doing it the real way.”

At press time, G Unit could not be reached for comment.
