Amir “King” Khan now officially has his queen after marrying Faryal Makhdoom Friday night at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.
The reportedly $1-million dollar ceremony will be replicated when the newlyweds fly to Khan’s hometown of Bolton, England for a second celebration.
Khan, 26, and Makhdoom, 21, got engaged last January. Since then, the couple maintained a long-distance relationship with Makhdoom continuing her higher education studies in New York, and Khan remaining in Bolton for his boxing career.
Since the engagement, Khan has fought three times; he lost via technical knockout to Danny Garcia last July, and rebounded with a corner stoppage over Carlos Molina last December, and a close decision win over Julio Diaz in April.
Khan’s marriage and the upcoming Muslim holy and fasting month of Ramadan were the main reasons he was ruled out of getting a September 14 megafight with Floyd Mayweather, who announced earlier this week he’ll be facing Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on that date.
At press time, Khan is expected to return to the ring in December to face IBF welterweight titlist Devon Alexander.
