Foxy Brown Performs at NY’s B.B. Kings

Foxy Brown rebounded with a week of negative publicity with a spirited performance at Manhattan’s BB Kings on Sunday night (July 25).

Brown (Inga Marchand) took the stage at 11:30pm before hundreds of dedicated fans. She performed her first single “Get You Home” and “Candy” off 2001’s Broken Silence.

Former boyfriend Spragga Benz made an appearance to perform their collaboration “Oh Yeah.”

Last week, Brown was arrested on criminal contempt charges for threatening her neighbor Arlene Raymond. Raymond called police after she was allegedly mooned by Brown on her doorstep. The confrontation was prompted by Raymond complaining about Foxy’s loud music rehearsal.

Raymond already had an order of protection against Brown stemming from a previous incident where Foxy assaulted her with a cell phone in 2007.

The criminal contempt charge is a felony and she faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

To make the concert yesterday, Brown posted a $5000 bail on July 22.

“This is what we tell all the haters. You can’t keep a good bitch down,” she told the crowd. “We makes bail.”

Her court date is scheduled for tomorrow (July 27).

Foxy Brown turned 30 this year. It’s completely natural to put on extra weight as we age. But when that occurs, we have to recognize that we can’t rock the same clothes that were hitting for us say 5-7 years ago.

This is what a good entourage is for. All those people standing behind her and no one had the courtesy to let Foxy know that dress was wrong on so many levels? Foxy is an attractive woman but her outfit strips away any of her appeal.

It symbolizes that crossroad a lot of Hip-Hop artists reach later in their careers. 30 isn’t old, but it’s old enough to know better and not try to get away with certain things. Her next album is going to be make or break and determine which direction her career goes in. Her platinum and gold plaque days are gone and that’s fine, but she cannot try to have a “second childhood” of sorts on the mic.  Foxy has the talent. And along with her recent personal struggles, a wealth of heartfelt material to tap into if she’s willing to evolve.
