Canibus has had plenty of embarrassing moments recently (J.Cole, DJ Premier beefs), but he’s surpassed all conceivable levels of struggle with his battle performance last night at the KOTD (King of the Dot) freestyle competition against Dizaster at Exchange LA.
Lucky for Canibus, the entire battle that was up earlier on Daily Motion has been taken down. The clip ran for nearly an hour, but I could only make it to about the 38 minute mark. After that it was too painful to watch even on my end.
Canibus did ok in the first round. He relied on writtens going back to the Can-I-Bus era but the crowd were into some of the punchlines. However, Dizaster is an accomplished battle rapper and took the first easily. The second round got worst as Canibus struggled for rhymes through long pauses and flat punchlines. Dizaster had no issues disconstructing Canibus about his career moves and feuds with LL and Eminem. His lines were pointed and quick, making it very clear that Canibus was an emcee out of his element in a contest he had no hope of winning.
Canibus admitted defeat, but the worst came when he pulled out a notebook of rhymes. By then the crowd was done with him and the hosts had to fight hard to get everyone to quiet down. Problem was, the notebook rhymes were atrocious.
It was a horrible evening for Canibus and his fans. All he can do now is get in the booth and create a monster of a song to help lessen last night’s embarrassment. Although their losses were no where near as bad, Royce da 5’9 and Masta Ace bounced back from freestyle defeats at the hands of Mistah F.A.B. and Boogieman respectively with memorable on wax diss records. It’s worth a try if you’re Canibus.
