DONT MIND ME….JUST STAYING IN SHAPE…JUST PRACTICE…LIKE A PIANO PLAYER OR A GYMNAST.  Not on T&Y…So pls dont Say It Is on your blog. Thanx.

The above quote was courtesy of Lupe Fiasco’s Twitter page as he explained the background of this new song. A lot of people recently have had a love/hate relationship with Lupe’s production choices. Some were hopeful that he’d be taking a more traditional Hip-Hop approach on the beats based on his last release (the very nice LupeFiascoStore.com), but “Light Blue confirms that isn’t the case. The lyrics are still high quality, especially as this one progresses. Lupe’s next album will be titled Tetsuo & Youth.

With the new single for his sophomore album due this week, J.Cole has decided to clear out five songs that won’t make the final cut via a new EP entitled Truly Yours. As expected, Cole is claiming the new project is his best work. Check out his recent blog entry for more insight and the song sample below.

It’s time.

I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have.
Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .

Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as fuck for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..

The wait is over.

Truly Yours,

Born Sinner

Truly Yours

PS- 1st single coming this week. The album is hands down my best work yet. Can’t wait to share.

Pretty sure most people weren’t expecting this as a first single. For his first track of 2013, Drake hops on a trap beat to recap his humble beginnings to becoming a rap superstar. Below, Drake explains the track in his own words.

My good friends,

It has truly been too long. I assume you’re all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we’ve been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork…I think it’s safe to say we’re back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

When Nore announced yesterday that he had changed his name change to P.A.P.I. (Power Always Proves Intelligence) I was like GTFO. But if tracks like this is what we can expect going forward, then P.A.P.I. it is! That quick drop of “Lookin’ At the Front Door” got me hype. P.A.P.I. is currently working on a new album entitled Student of the Game.

Bilal_backtolove_cover

Bilal is back with the first release off his upcoming album A Love Surreal (February 12). Bilal is describing this album as an “audio art gallery” mixing of jazz, soul and funk, all of which are apparent on this upbeat number about reigniting love in a meandering relationship. The album itself is inspired by the surrealist visual art of Salvador Dali, meaning this album could be very good or a possible train wreck. We’ll find out for sure in a few months, but so far so good. The single can be purchased HERE.

The numerous leaked/potential tracks over the last few months  from T.I.’s Trouble Man (December 18) have been a mixed bag, but “Hello” can be placed on the “good side.” After the over the top nature of Ceelo’s Christmas album, the Goodie Mob frontman gives a more understated (and appropriate) performance. The track is available for purchase HERE on iTunes.

“Richardsun” is a new Homeboy Sandman track that’s featured on a super exclusive 7″ celebrating the 10 year anniversary of German Hip-Hop store HHV.de. The song is produced by Rthentic TNC with the b-side featuring a Jaylib remix. There’s reportedly only 300 copies being pressed, so those interested can purchase the track it HERE.

Rihanna is in “big ballad” mode “Diamonds,” the lead single off her currently untitled seventh album. There’s not much to criticize here. The lyrics are simple and don’t clutter Stargate and Benny Blanco’s triumphant arrangements. And credit to Rihanna (or studio tricks), her voice remains strong and not drowned out by the grand production. Expect this to be another hit for the Bajan bad girl.

J. Cole – “I’m a Fool”

We’ve all played the fool at some point. In this new track off his forthcoming EP, J. Cole details his own mishaps ranging from financial responsibility to love and education. Ceelo’s “Fool for You” is the soulful musical backdrop that adds some liveliness to the proceedings. Last year was a Cole World, this year might just be a Cole Winter.

Drake has taken his Aaliyah fandom to the next level. The result is a rather enjoyable posthumous down-tempo track that would have fit nicely on Aaliyah’s last, self-titled album. Timbaland might not approve, but this is actually the type of track you could envision Aaliyah making with an artist like Drake in 2012. Aside from Drake referencing the word “bitch” in his lyrics (which is out of place on a record from Aaliyah, an artist who was big on female empowerment), there’s not much that you can really complain about on this one. Make you wonder how smooth an Aaliyah-40 EP or album would have been.
