There was a lot of good joints off Funkmaster Flex’s Who You Mad At? Me Or Yourself? mixtape, but this is one of the few heaters I regularly go back to. Ortiz hits up PR and NYC with assorted cameos from Lil Fame, NY Giants player Victor Cruz, Livin Proof, Termanology and others. Only dude missing was Frankie Cutlass.

Marco-Polo-Newport-Authority2_cover

Don’t think there’s still a difference between mixtapes and albums in 2013? Marco Polo begs to differ and offers his free LP, Newport Authority 2, as the main reason why. Filled with a balanced mix of Hip-Hop legends and newcomers, Polo breaks down the project in his own words:

The Newport Authority 2 album was inspired by politics & industry bullshit that prevented this material from being included on my upcoming LP PA2: The Director’s Cut. Shylow and I went in and created a separate album to hold people over until PA2 drops in July.  Attached with Intro, interludes and fully mixed & mastered by Joe Nardone. With confidence I can say this is not a mixtape.  It will also be available on vinyl LP via Fat Beats for the heads that appreciate physical product, because I still do. I’ve included songs I recorded with legends such as Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Tragedy Khadafi, Lil Fame and The Artifacts. But, I’ve also got joints on here with some talented up and comers such as First Division, MidaZ and Big Gutta. Plus the shit is free – so enjoy!

Raekwon_86Remix

A track from Raekwon’s recent Lost Jewlry mixtape gets the remix treatment with AZ and Altrina Renee in tow. If you missed the entire project a few months back, you can download it here. The title references the 80s, but the beat and track structure is definitely out of the mid 90s mixtape lane.

JPeriod_Common

Who better to retouch a classic then its originator? Common revisits his signature ode to Hip-Hop with J. Period supplying scratches that give nods to past emcees like MC Shan and Da Bush Babees. And Common pays tribute to Tribe’s Low End Theory with the chorus. This track will be featured on J. Period’s upcoming Rage Is Back mixtape (February 12).
