Are you a sucker for love? If so, this joint by newcomer August Alsina might piss you off. With fellow New Orleans native Lloyd, Alsina clowns on an unfortunate soul who tried to have a committed relationship with a woman who clearly had other ideas in mind. There’s some comedic fuckery in this clip, such as Alsina clowning said dude on the phone while serenading him. This is straight out of that “Trap in the Closet” school of R&B, but entertaining nonetheless.

This joint is off Alsina’s DJ scream-assisted mixtape The Product and can be downloaded HERE

Is that Wayne Brady doing the intro?! As expected, Lloyd brings the retro look for his nod to 50′s popular music and the Power of the P, “Dedication to My Ex.” Wayne and Andre 3K don’t makes appearances, but the latter is curiously depicted as a cat. The female love interest will give you Aaliyah flashbacks. The uncensored version is still king.

“I can buy you anything you want… I got paper, I got plastic.”

Who wouldn’t like spending someone else’s money? That’s the angle of singer Lloyd’s latest single “Never Window Shoppin.” Apparently having got over the “pussy withdrawal” he detailed on his last track, Lloyd is now ready to max out his credit on shopping sprees for his special someone. On some level, all women dream/fantasize about unlimited shopping sprees, so this song should find an audience. Note the interpolation of some lyrics from Pharcyde’s ”Passing Me By.” LLoyd’s new album King of Hearts is available now.

“I know another bee has been in that honey…”

Went I talked to Lloyd at last year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, he was adamant in boasting his new album would have music I’d never heard before. He saw the skeptical look on my face and reiterated his content on love, the production and presentation would shock me. I won’t lie, by the end of our roughly five-minute convo he had sold me. And after listening to this ode to lost pussy, “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That),” Lloyd’s proclamations were valid.

What makes this song such an enjoyable listen is how it plays with your expectations. The arrangements are styled after those carefree, Frankie Lymon type 50′s swing/R&B songs. Combining that with the raunchiness of the lyrics, especially the repeated wailing about lost pussy, is just so over the top that you can’t help but incredulously smile and laugh no matter how conservative your tastes (“Where did my pussy go…I’m about to kill this bitch!”). Andre 3000 seems to find his way on every R&B song these days, and his verse supplies sophistication to the proceedings without killing the track’s surreal nature. Oddly, Wayne is only talks a few lines on here instead of dropping a verse.

We’d be remiss without offering some applause to Ceelo. Without question, the success of “Fuck You” is the main reason Lloyd and his label are willing to gamble on this being a single. You can bet “pussy” will be replaced for the radio edit. My apologies for doubting you, Lloyd.

The BET Hip Hop Awards 2010 is over and off to post-production editing. The annual Atlanta event draws most of the big names in urban music for a weekend of partying and networking. This was my second year covering the event for AllHipHop.com, so I knew to arrive very early. The city of Atlanta had other events like an important Atlanta Braves baseball game that added to the ridiculous amount of traffic. Luckily, BET improved this year by supplying a shuttle for media, since every street within a 2-3 block radius was blocked off.

The carpet opened promptly at 2:30 and lasted until close to 5PM. Early on things went smooth. Artists were escorted by their publicists one by one slowly across the line to speak with selected media outlets. But soon, the easygoing pace morphed into organized chaos as more artists and media arrived. Still, the BET volunteers and black carpet escorts were an immense help in getting interviews secured. Below are some of the interesting, and sometimes humorous quotes I got from some of the attendees.

The actual show airs on October 12 at 8PM. Be sure to check out www.allhiphop.com additional coverage of the show.
