DJ Skizz will be dropping a self-produced LP entitled BQE. An early leak from the project features Brooklyn’s Lil Fame and Ill Bill. Sounds like an album to keep an eye out for.

Beats will come courtesy of DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Psycho Les, El-P, Ayatollah, MoSS, C-Lance and of course Ill Bill. [VIDEO] La Coka Nostra – “Creed of the Greedier”
Posted: August 16, 2012 in UncategorizedTags: Danny Boy, Ill Bill, La Coka Nostra, Masters of the Dark Arts, Slaine, video
La Coka Nostra’s new video for “Creed of the Greedier” is the latest in a slew of hardcore bangers off the group’s Master of the Dark Arts LP. If you think the group sounds mad in their rhymes, you not too off-base as evident by the below quote from group member Slaine.
I think we approached Masters Of The Dark Arts with a chip on our shoulder and really took it back to our original mission of hardcore Hip-Hop amidst all the circus bullshit that is so prevalent in the current landscape of the genre. We are aware of the perception that somehow the group has suffered a loss we can’t recover from and in response we made an album that is the most conceptually focused and hardest hitting soundscape in the group ’s history.
New Music: Boog Brown & Oddisee, Rah Digga Sampler, Wale’s New Vid, Muggs & Ill Bill Meet the Devil, Skyzoo & !llmind

Boog Brown Returns to “The Essence”
With the recent BET special “My Mic Sounds Nice”, Nicki Minaj at the MTV Awards, and Rah Digga dropping today after a 10 year hiatus, female emcees have been thankfully getting more attention. An unsung emcee doing her thing here in ATL is Boog Brown, who on September 28 will release her first full-length LP with Apollo Brown entitled Brown Study. “The Essence,” a non-album track, was released over the summer with a video and featured prominently on “My Mic Sounds Nice.” This week, she teamed up with Oddisee to drop a dope remix for “The Essence.” Compare with the original and determine which one you prefer. Follow Brown on Twitter @boogbrown and on Facebook.

Rah Digga Sampler
Speaking of Rah Digga, Judgment Day arrived today with her first album in 10 years, Classic. With only 10 tracks and a cover that’s a tribute to her favorite album Illmatic, Digga has put a lot of pressure on herself with a title that accepts nothing less than perfection. Does the first lady of Brick City deliver? Check out this album sampler from King Most to get an informed opinion. Classic is available now through Amazon and iTunes.
Wale Gets to Work
“I consider myself one of the best new, young rappers, and one of the best active rappers right now. I’m on my no days off shit…”
Last month, Wale released his new mixtape More About Nothing. The Seinfeld-inspired project got decent buzz and even became a high trending topic on Twitter. He’s seeking to build on that success with the new video “The Work,” which attempts to show his fans outside of Washington, DC different, lesser known parts of the city. Shout out to Bank Films who shot the clip.
666 Is DJ Muggs and Ill Bill’s Number
Kill Devil Hills is in stores now, and the duo of DJ Muggs and Ill Bill just keep rolling out video after video. In August, fans got a bloody shootout as the visual representation for “Ill Bill TV.” Then, Raekwon joined the pair for a caper on “Chase Manhattan.” Now, the conspiratorial ”Illuminati 666″ gets the early 80s animated treatment. Muggs and Bill are promising yet another video which will serve as the conclusion to the saga.
Skyzoo & !llmind “Tales of the Tape” Episode #2
Skyzoo and !llmind have delivered the second episode of their four-part web series leading up to the October 2 release of their collaboration album Live From the Tape Deck. Skyzoo was adamant that for this LP, he didn’t want a rehash project trying to relive the glory years of NY boom bap.
“One thing I told !llmind is that I didn’t want to sound boom bap,” Skyzoo explained. “I don’t want it to sound like what people think those terms mean. What people think those terms mean sounds like ’92 and ’93. That’s great, [but] I don’t want to recycle.”
Love the Omar Little t-shirt Skyzoo is rocking. If you missed the first leak “Frisbees,” you can peep the video here.
Raekwon Speaks on “Chase Manhattan” Appearance with DJ Muggs & Ill Bill

“The collaborative effort is crazy! Y’all gonna hear me on that record; ‘Chase Manhattan’ that’s the joint!”
Raekwon
Fresh off a very unexpected collaboration with Kanye West and Justin Bieber, Wu-Tang’s Raekwon has dropped a clip lauding his work with DJ Muggs and Ill Bill on “Chase Manhattan.”
The track is off Muggs and Bill’s Kill Devil Hills album which is in stores now. You’ve heard a few of the tracks here at Beats, Boxing and Mayhem. Following Raekwon’s clip check out the stream and download link if you’re feeling the track.

Elite Status w/ Kanye, Beyonce & Charlie Wilson, 50 Prank Calls Shyne, New DJ Muggs & Ill Bill Video
Posted: August 11, 2010 in Music NewsTags: 50 Cent, Beyonce, Charlie Wilson, Def Jam, DJ Muggs, Ill Bill, Kanye West, Kill Devil Hills, Shyne
“I’m a let you finish…but I got Beyonce on the track!” Kanye West
Earlier today on Hot 97 Kanye debuted a track he’s had in the vaults. Named “See Me Now,” the track features chorus work from both Beyonce and Charlie Wilson along with production from Lex Luger. The vibe will remind fans of Ye’s upbeat College Dropout work like “Family Business.” Beyonce’s carries a hum-along melody throughout the song doesn’t clash with Kanye’s lyrics, which has ear-catching lines like “Rap god, Greek mythology/And his life too crazy to think logically/Here’s something that you can use as an analogy/My life is like a child’s illusions become reality. ” Throughout the song, West does a great balancing act of mixing the spiritual with the secular, using topics such as Chicago gangs, God, fashion and battle raps.
Amusingly, the biggest shock people seem to have from this track is Beyonce singing “My niggas is home.” You know you’re a superstar when people can no longer fathom you using everyday language. People seem to have forgotten Bey didn’t grow up in a bubble, but Houston, Texas.
Personally I’m not big on the musical backdrop, but Kanye lyrics elevate the experience for me. Enjoy.
Ill Bill TV
By now you’re used to the weekly new material that’s being posted here from DJ Muggs and Ill Bills Kill Devils Hill album. Today, the duo dropped an official video for the track “Ill Bill TV.” The album has been pushed back a week and will now come out on August 31st via Fat Beats Records.
50 Cent Prank Calls Shyne
Last week Def Jam held a conference call for media to speak with Shyne about his future projects. 50 Cent got wind of the news and decided to crash the party by impersonating a fictional Radio One personality. Apparently, someone at Def Jam either realized it was 50 or just didn’t like 50’s valid question regarding Shyne’s issues with him. Before 50 could really go at him, his call was terminated.
Of course, when 50 tried to call back he was blocked. But that didn’t stop the Queens mogul from going into a mini-rant. Watch and get a decent chuckle. Ironically, neither artist is making stellar music these days.
Music Today: Wale Offers Nothing, Nicki Minaj’s Favorite Color, Ill Bill & DJ Muggs Go Spanish, Willie the Kid’s Bath Water Romp
Posted: August 4, 2010 in Music NewsTags: Avery Storm, Bath Water Running, DJ Muggs, Ill Bill, Kill Devil Hills, Lee Bannon, More About Nothing, Narco Corridos, Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday, Wale, Willie the Kid, Wiz Khalifa
Wale’s Attention Deficit wasn’t the home run he or his label Interscope expected. So what does the D.C. native do? He launches a sequel of sorts to his most critically-acclaimed project to date, 2008′s Seinfeld-inspired Mixtape About Nothing. As a Rap Radar exclusive, Wale dropped More About Nothing yesterday afternoon. You can tell alot of time and effort was invested; Wale offers his fans 21 tracks with features from Wiz Khalifa, UCB and Avery Storm. Production-wise Wale gets assistance from Cool & Dre, Drumma Boy, Mark Henry and others.
If you’re like me, you’ll throw on 100 Miles & Running before Attention Deficit, so this mixtape is welcome. Wale seems much more confident and relaxed in the sandbox realm of mixtapes rather than albums. On the fence about downloading? Here’s a sample song below.

11.23.10- PINK FRIDAY- The Album
With that simple phrase Nicki Minaj confirmed the title of her album. Right now the details are scarce outside of “Your Love” being confirmed and Minaj promising to unveil a new alter ego dubbed Roman Zolanski. Regarding production, all she’s verified so far is that she’s been working extensively with Swizz Beatz. Nicki has nearly three calendar months to work with, so expect another single and more hype leading up to November 23.
I don’ think she’ll surpass Drake, but I predict Nicki to do sell 275-325k her first week.
Ill Bill Talks “Narco Corridos”
Ill Bill and Sick Jacken break down the concept behind this Spanish-inspired track off the DJ Muggs collaboration LP Kill Devil Hills (August 24). Album is sounding pretty good so far.
Willie the Kid feat. Lee Bannon “Bath Water Running”
DJ Drama protege Willie Kid just dropped a new video for this joint off his iTunes available Never a Dull Moment EP. The Ghostface vocal sample is highly appropriate because this is definitely something you’d expect from Pretty Toney production-wise and visually. Willie doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously and shows a little personality in this one. If anything else, the two women should hold your attention.
Music Today: Duck Down’s Anniversary Footage, Skyzoo & Illmind, The Pack, Missus Nicki Minaj, DJ Muggs
Posted: July 29, 2010 in Music NewsTags: Black Moon, Boot Camp Clik, DJ Muggs, Duck Down, Ill Bill, Illmind, Jean Grae, Lil B, Masta Ace, Nicki Minaj, Roman Zolanski, Skyzoo, Smif N Wessun, Styles P, The Pack, Torae
10 days ago Duck Down held a concert at NYC’s BB Kings to celebrate their 15th anniversary. The night was hosted by Angela Yee and Amanda Diva, and the estimated 800 fans saw were treated to performances from the Boot Camp Clik, Torae, Kidz In the Hall, Pharoahe Monch, and Marco Polo. There were also surprise non-Duck Down sets from Large Professor, Jean Grae, Styles P, Masta ce, Pete Rock, Immortal Technique, and Tony Touch.
All in all, a very strong night of Hip-Hop. Duck Down was here before the indie boom, and they’re still here after it. Check out the highlights.
Skyzoo & Illmind
“Too lyrical for me…”
The amusing comment above was made on YouTube regarding this new video “Frisbees” from Skyzoo and producer Illmind. Their album Live from the Tape Deck hits stores via Duck Down Records on October 5. Video directed by Derek Pike.
Pack Leak
People are still waiting for this Pack/Lil B phenomenon to run its course. But 17 million MySpace plays and a few more million YouTube views later, the movement appears to be gaining momentum. This leak is called “Based Boys” and will be on their August 24 album Wolfpack Party. “We can hang like orangutan titties.” You can always count on some laughable lines on their joints.
The Pack “Based Boys”
Schizophrenic Minaj
Nicki Minaj already has the Roman Zolanksi alter ego. I wonder which this is. Nicki Poppins? The accent kicks in around the midway point.
Dante Ross Interviews DJ Muggs
Producer DJ Muggs gives some insight into past work and info on his upcoming Ill Bill collaboration album Kill Devil Kills (August 24).
New Music: Ill Bill & DJ Muggs Talk New Album, Cymarshall Law, More Bay Area Heat, Fat Joe Goes Back to His Roots
Posted: July 20, 2010 in Music NewsTags: Big Pun, Cymarshall Law, DJ Muggs, DJ Premier, Fat Joe, Gotham Green, Ill Bill, Moe Green, Quickie Mart, Trek Life, TRUTHLiVE
Last week I dropped Ill Bill and DJ Muggs’ video “Cult Assassin” for their new album Kill Devil Hills. Today the duo discusses their creative process on the project. According to Muggs, they spent 2 weeks straight banging out the songs before going into a revision period. The album has guest spots from Raekwon, La Coka Nostra, and B-Real. The release date is August 24.
Cymarshall Law
Cymarshall Law’s Freedom Express Line hits stores on August 31. This is the official video for “The Flyness” with The Beatnikz. Cy’s voice might initially put people off. But like a few other artists with unnatural rhyme vocals (Freeway, Cormega), he has worthwhile music if you give him a chance.
The Haze Diaries Volume 3
Gotham Green & Quickie Mart got love here last week for their Patrice Rushen-sampling “LA to JFK.” Their new album Haze Diaries Volume 3 dropped today along with a video for “Tell Me Something,” featuring Freddie Gibbs and Jes Hudak. As the album title implies they make smoke out music, so fans of artists like Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa should enjoy them.
Trek Life’s New Mixtape to Precede Album
Trek Life is having a breakout year. His song “Supreme” was showcased heavily by ESPN during their NBA Finals coverage. Today his new mixtape Before Everything Changed is available for free download. Trek says the project is the result of his regular collaborator DJ Tommy Blak rummaging through his hard drive and finding a wealth of dormant, quality material.
“This mixtape came about by Tommy Blak raiding my studio Hard Drive and finding a folder of tracks I had done with other people over the past few years,” Trek explained. “He felt like he should put them together so that people could see what other stuff I’ve done since Price I’ve Paid.”
Tommy Blak mixes the tape while J. Bizness hosts. On the fence about downloading? Check these tracks.

Back to the Bay
I had been sleeping on a lot of these new Bay Area artists. Last week there were drops and free mixtapes from Moe Green and DaVinci. Evan “TRUTHLiVE” Phillips enterrs the fray with a new video for “Ready Set Go,” off his Jake One-produced album Patience. The emcee/entrprenuer is the owner and founder of Interdependent Media, which is also the home of Moe Green.
The second half of 2010 will a landmark year for the label, as Phillips is expecting to release projects from Canibus, Von Pea, and A-Plus.
Fat Joe Goes Back to the Early Days
A few years back on a track with Lil Wayne, Fat Joe shamelessly admitted that he was taking his style “southpaw.” But if this new DJ Premier-produced track and the recent joint with Cam’Ron and the Clipse are any indication, Fat Joe seems to have experienced a wake-up call. Add these tracks with the official single “Slow Down (Ha Ha),” and Fat Joe hasn’t had one bad track yet leak from The Darkside Vol. 1 (July 27). Those fans who jumped ship after Don Cartagena and Big Pun’s death might need to take a second look.

New Music: Rick Ross Gets Shook w/Raekwon, Bay Area Sounds Off, Tea Party Rap, DJ Muggs & Ill Bill Assassinate
Posted: July 15, 2010 in Music NewsTags: Bay Area, DaVinci, DJ Muggs, Ill Bill, Jasiri X, Kill Devil Hills, Lil B, Moe Green, Raekwon, Rick Ross, Tea Party, The Pack
By now most of you have delved into Rick Ross’ leaked Teflon Don album. This outtake is a nice reworking of the timeless Mobb Deep “Shook Ones” sample, Ross and Raekwon give you the drug and materialism talk you’d expect. Very surprised this one didn’t make it.

Don’t Sleep on the Bay
The Bay Area has yet to recover nationally from the Hyphy movement backlash. But that shouldn’t prevent fans from checking what their promising younger acts.
DaVinci is a member of radio station KMEL’s Freshmen 10 class, and has been making a name for himself with appearances on DJ Muggs’ Shade 45 Soul Assassins radio show with Talib Kweli, Planets Asia, and Strong Arm Steady. The smooth riding themed ”Clean Ass Whip” is a new track, and follows up his free debut album that was released earlier this year (The Day the Turf Stood Still).
DaVinci feat. San Quinn-”Clean Ass Whip”
DaVinci in Los Angeles
The 22 year-old Moe Green is another KMEL Freshmen list recipient, and with good reason. The Vallejo native dropped a new album today for free download called Rocky Maivia: The Non-Title Match. His reasoning behind the move is that he has to earn the listener’s dollars by first showing that he can make worthwhile music.
“Why would I make somebody pay for the new guy when they’re already getting their favorite rapper’s work for free?” he explained in a statement. This is in sharp contrast to others who take David Banner’s approach, but a realistic one for Green who’s attempting to build a national rep through his Independent Media label.
I love the wrestling allusions, but let’s hope the WWE or The Rock himself doesn’t come knocking with a cease and desist letter. The album can be downloaded here.
Moe Green- “Top Turnbuckle Lifestyle”

Lil B’s crew The Pack check in with the bass-heavy street track “Kimbo Slice.” I know some people can’t stand them, but this is a servicable club track and will appease their fanbase. How can you not appreciate lines like “I fucked your girl and called her a liar?” Their new album Wolfpack Party drops on August 24 via SMC Records.
The Pack- “Kimbo Slice”
Jasiri X Tackles Tea Party Issue
Pittsburgh emcee and activist Jasiri X takes a thought-provoking approach to the controvery surrounding the ideological Republican subgroup known as the Tea Party. The premise is a hythothetical discussion on how the media would portray the Tea Party if it were a predominantly black group. Whether you agree or disagree, it’s sure to spark discussion.
DJ Muggs vs Ill Bill- “Cult Assassin”
This is from their Kill Devil Hills album that drops on Fatbeats records August 24. Muggs delivers his expected dark, ochestral production that contrasts well with the 80s style cartoon video. The beat reminds me of late 90′s RZA.
