Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz held their first press conference yesterday for their September WBC title match. Dubbed “Star Power,’ the intriguing bout will be Mayweather’s first in 16 months, and Ortiz’s first following a Fight of Year candidate performance over Andre Berto. Both fighters met with ESPN’s Brian Kenny to offer their views on the fight. Mayweather verified his willingness to face Manny Pacquiao (should his rival agree to random blood and urine testing), while Ortiz promoted his chances of an upset due to his southpaw stance, power and speed.

Manny Pacquiao spoke with ESPN’s Brian Kenny to give his thoughts on his upcoming contest with Shane Mosley. As expected, Pacquiao stated the decision to fight Mosley was completely made by his promoter, Bob Arum. But breaking from standard opinion, he believes Shane’s last two fights against Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Mora show he is still dangerous. He believes Mosley doesn’t look his 39 years, but rather like a 32 or 33-year-old. Pacquiao views Shane’s attributes on experience, speed and power as what will make him a difficult opponent. I won’t spoil what the Pacman says during the obligatory Mayweather question.

It’d be nice to see Manny take a more active role in selecting his opponents. Leave it up to Arum and we’ll see Pacquiao in there next against Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.
