“I’m looking stupid in front of all the audience…” – Brandon Rios
Rios: 139 lbs.
Abril: 135 lbs.
Prediction: After all the talk about he’d make weight safely, Brandon Rios failed to make weight twice yesterday afternoon for what was supposed to be a lightweight title match tonight. Rios came in the first time at 137 only to return later at 139 pounds. Expect tonight’s fight to look much like Rios’ last fight against John Murray; he’ll start slow and eventually take over down the stretch simply by being the better fighter, especially on the inside. Look for Abril to pounce early and possibly badly stun Rios during an exchange. And being that Rios will likely be around if not over the welterweight limit tonight, don’t be surprised if a weight advantage comes into play. Let’s hope Rios’ team takes heed of their fighter’s words and make this Brandon’s last lightweight attempt. Rios TKO10.
Alvarado: 140 lbs.
Herrera: 140 lbs.
Prediction: This could be a show-stealer. Although naturally a boxer, Herrera is very durable and can bang inside when necessary. With Alvarado being a come-forward “seek and destroy” type guy, this one should be very competitive with sustained action. It’s is a tough pick, but I think Herrera’s bloody battle and win last year over previously unbeaten Ruslan Provodnikov will give him the experience to see this one through. Herrera by majority decision.
