Miguel Cotto and Antonio used today’s final press conference to get in some last-minute personal insults before Saturday’s highly anticipated rematch. Margarito kicked off the animosity by stating Cotto’s punches like a “girl” and a super flyweight. Cotto countered by reiterating his stance that Margarito is a “criminal” and “embarrassment” to boxing, which invoked notable cheers from the audience. The ill will resulted in Bob Arum making sure to stand between them for photos and no final staredown.

ANTONIO MARGARITO

This man next to me calls me a criminal. I don’t know why he calls me a criminal. I am not a criminal. He’s said I’m not a good person or a gentleman. I don’t know why he says that. He says he’s not going to have any mercy on my eye. He can hit my eye as many times as he wants. He hits like a girl; a super flyweight hits harder. I’m very confident in my preparation. I’m better than the first time.

MIGUEL COTTO

I’m going to talk in Spanish so Antonio gets a direct message and understands me well. A criminal is, and you can look it up in the dictionary, those persons who utilize a weapon against another person. I asked you during the Faceoff about the rupture in your gloves, a question you mixed with mucus.

Second, the wrap during the Mosley fight was removed prior to the bout and had a red spot prior to any gloves being worn on your hands. Why did you have that red spot?

MARGARTIO

You’re worried. We’ll see on Saturday…

COTTO

I’m not worried — do you know why you can’t answer? Because you’re a shame for the boxing world and the Mexican people should blush because of you. This Saturday, you’re gonna see how the ‘little girl’ will punch and play with you at will.

MARGARITO

We’ll see! We’ll see!

COTTO

I’ll see you on Saturday.

MARGARITO

That’s what you said the last time. You’re gonna get it worse this time.

The face may not be familiar, but you might recognize the voice of Baltimore poet, emcee and singer Maimouna Youssef. She was featured in Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, and has contributed vocals to the works of Nas, Erykah Badu, Dead Prez, Jill Scott and the Roots, with whom she earned a 2007 Grammy nomination for work on “Don’t Feel Right.” This gem is an allegorical representation of the perilous love triangle Youssef attempts to reconcile in the fiscal and image expectations of the music industry with her goal to make genuine, heartfelt art. Youssef’s debut album The Blooming is available now.

Roy Jones is making a low-key comeback next Saturday (December 10) at Atlanta’s Civic Center when he faces Max Alexander. The calls for retirement were raised higher from fans and media after Jones suffered a last round TKO at the hands of Denis Lebedev in May, marking his third consecutive defeat. After hiring new co-trainer Tom Yankello and sparring with heavyweights in Pittsburgh, Jones is confident he’ll deliver a big knockout to kick off his latest comeback.

I am ready and I am sharp. I have a whole new plan. I’m gonna shock the world with my agility and skill level. In the first round that Max slips, that’s the round he is going down. That may be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even the 10th.  But, whenever it is, I will knock him out in the first round that he slips, I am ready!

The card, titled King of the Ring 5 Resurrection, will be available via internet pay-per-view at http://www.ustream.tv/royjones.

Miguel Cotto fans will find a promising development in their man’s public workout yesterday in New York City. During his in-ring work, Cotto can be seen using a lot of lateral movement and not moving straight back as he did in the first fight with Margarito. Of course, it’s a whole different ball game when its a someone like the Tijuana Tornado applying pressure and throwing punches at you instead of a trainer. Will Cotto fall back into old habits this Saturday (December 3)? We only have a few days left before we find out.

Antonio Margarito offers some brief insight to his first battle with Miguel Cotto and the redemption he seeks in the December 3 rematch. Again, we see Margarito clad in dark shades. Another telling sign on the condition of that reconstructed right eye?

A trio of LA emcees give their take on Drake’s catchy Take Care leftover. Looking at the lineup, YG seems out-of-place but he does his thing. Nipsey’s has the best presence here as Snoop falls back on his conversational flow. Considering the beat, it would have been nice to hear Snoop attack it. As it stands, Drake’s verse on the original remains the best approach.

Boog Brown’s critically-acclaimed 2010 album Brown Study is getting the remix treatment courtesy of Mello Music Group. Before the big Cotto-Margarito II main event, WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios will man the undercard and make the second defense of his title against John Murray. “Bam Bam” has had a great 2011 with highly entertaining bouts and KOs over Miguel Acosta and Ubrano Antillon. Expect him to continue that momentum and score another knockout this Saturday (December 3).

The abrupt change in trainers have some questioning if Miguel Cotto has a made a drastic mistake going into the most important fight of his career when he rematches Antonio Margarito this Saturday (December 3). According to Cotto, his new trainer and team members will be the exact reason he emerges victorious. Cotto’s comments are short on details so we don’t know what he has planned outside of his 24/7 comments that he’ll focus on Margarito’s reconstructed right eye.

20 years after winning his first Soul Train Award, Heavy D’s legacy got a memorable tribute last night (November 27) from his peers Goodie Mob, Doug E. Fresh, Whodini, Naughty By Nature and Kurtis Blow. Bushwick Bill even made an appearance. We’ll always have nuttin’ but love for ya, Heavy.
